The West Las Vegas Arts Center invites young men and women ages 10-18 to participate in the "4th Annual Youth Conference: A Call to Healing" from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 28. Presented by the city of Las Vegas and the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, with the support of the Clark County School District (CCSD), the event will feature community leaders speaking to and working with the youth. The conference will focus on encouraging youth to become independent-thinking adults, using thought-provoking dialogues to prompt clear solutions to problems and issues.

The conference provides the necessary tools to empower and enlighten young men and women during their transition into adulthood. The conference will focus on thought-provoking dialogues to foster clear communication between young men and women and to find clear solutions to youth problems and community issues, such as education, choices, self-respect, bullying, and gang violence.  Selected Clark County schools will participate in the opening celebrations. The event is cosponsored by the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District and the West Las Vegas Library.

Barlow will welcome participants at 9 a.m. Other scheduled speakers include Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Karen Bennett-Haron, Nevada State Assemblywoman Dina Neal, Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly, CCSD Superintendant Dwight Jones, KCEP Radio personality Franklyn G., businessman Frank Hawkins, attorney Jonathan MacArthur, and several educators.

On April 28th 2012, women and men will rally in communities throughout our nation protesting the War ON Women. Occupy Carson City will rally on Saturday, April 28th outside the Nevada Legislature to protest against government failures and corporate abuses and call for immediate change with our fellow citizens.  Bring a flag, your own sign, and any musical instrument. Plenty of free parking nearby.

Gather at Comma Coffee across the street from the Legislature at 312 S. Carson Street in Carson City at 11:30am. The rally will start at noon and go until 2:00 p.m.

The 11th annual Elko Take Pride in Your Community Clean Up, Green Up Day takes place on Saturday, April 28th from 7:30 a.m. to noon at two locations: Elko City Park Pit #1 at 1500 Idaho Street and Spring Creek Marina at 600 Spring Creek Parkway in Spring Creek.

Each adult volunteer who participates in the annual Take Pride in Your Community Clean Up, Green Up Day will receive a landfill voucher, with many more prizes slated to be dispersed throughout the event.

Lunch will be provided for all volunteers, with Kiwanis barbecuing in Main City Park and the Spring Creek Volunteer Fire Department barbecuing at the Spring Creek Marina.
