My Fellow Democrats:
This Saturday, January 21, at 11:00am, we start the process of re-electing President Barack Obama. I don’t know about you, but I am definitely “Fired up and Ready to Go!”
Many have asked me about the importance of attending the caucuses this Saturday and I would be remiss if I didn’t share some of the reasons I feel make it an important part of being, not only a good citizen, but a good Democrat.
First and foremost, it is important to come out and show Nevada and the country that we support President Obama. We support the President’s policies, we stand with the President today and we are committed to stand with him and work towards his re-election on November 6, 2012.
The caucus is also a way to stay involved or get involved in the Democratic Party so you can make a difference. Maybe you would like to be elected as a Clark County Delegate on your way to the County Convention on April 14. Maybe you are trying to continue the process to become a State Delegate and subsequently a National Delegate – the caucus is where the Delegate process starts. Maybe you want to become a member or continue as a member of the Clark County Democratic Party Central Committee. The caucus is where you need to register to be a part of the decision making body of our party. For current members, it is important to remember that if you wish to continue as a member, you need to be present on January 21 and start the process of renewing your membership in the Central Committee.
The Presidential Caucus on January 21, 2012 is also a way to get others involved. Reach out to a member of your family, a friend or a neighbor. Bring them with you to your caucus location so they, too, can caucus and stand in support of President Obama. If they, or someone you know, are not currently registered to vote, or maybe they have moved and need to re-register, we offer onsite registration so they can caucus with you!
The last reason I have for you to attend is that attending the Presidential Caucus is a great way to meet neighbors and others in your community who share the same love and affection for President Obama and Democratic Party principles and values.
I will be caucusing at my precinct (1424) at Greenspun Middle School and I can’t wait to see my neighbors there.
For current members, it is important to remember that if you wish to continue as a member, you need to be present on January 21 and start the process of renewing your membership in the Central Committee.
For those who want know more about the Caucus process, you can go to http://www.pledgetocaucus.com.
You can also attend a Caucus Temporary Chair Training event tonight - January 17, 2012 – at 6:00 p.m. We meet at the Nevada State Democratic Party office located at 1210 S. Valley View Blvd., Suite 114, Las Vegas, NV 89102. If you have questions about this event, contact Simone Simpson at campaignhq08@gmail.com or (702) 513-5120.
Thank you for being involved and thank you for coming out this Saturday, January 21, 2012, and standing together in support of President Obama.
